Review: Alice Boulangerie Unveils New Christmas Menu Featuring Pastries And Hot Food Like US Angus Roast Beef, And More
As the festive season is approaching, most of you might have already started planning for a Christmas gathering! Well, you cannot miss out on an ultimate holiday feasting during Christmas. It is the best time of the year to fill your hearts with joy from your loved ones and your belly with delicious food! If you are in search of a place for a get-together this Christmas, we got your back!
Situated in the heart of CBD at Tanjong Pagar, Alice Boulangerie is a homegrown brand, well-known and loved for its exquisite and eye-catching bicoloured viennoiseries. This Christmas, they are presenting you with a new lineup of pastries crafted exquisitely with quality ingredients. It includes a spotlight on four novel 3D avant-garde entremets that is available in-store now! That's not all — for the first time this year, they have also curated a hot food menu to cater to savoury lovers with mouthwatering dishes like US Angus Roast Beef and Kurobuta (Bone-in) Roast Pork- perfect for sharing!
Before we share with you what we think of the food, we have to say that we fell in love with the place. It is designed with a Japandi interior, decorated with minimalistic and Scandinavian furniture- giving off a cosy and inviting ambience.
We started with the US Angus Roast Beef ($180 for 1kg) that was first pan-seared to retain the juices of the meat, then slow-roasted till tender with rosemary and thyme. It is a delectable dish- with a tender red center that oozes a juicy beef flavor. Not forgetting to mention, the beef pairs perfectly well with the flavoursome red wine mushroom sauce.
Next, we tried the sinfully delicious Kurobuta (Bone-in) Roast Pork ($180 for 1.5kg), brined overnight and marinated with mixed herbs. It has a perfect crisp crackling pork skin, and the meat is thick and succulent. We also dipped it with homemade wholegrain tangy mustard cream sauce gives the roast pork an extra flavour!
The last dish for the hot food was this savoury Roasted Season Vegetables & Potato Gratin (1.2kg for $39). It is so creamy and cheesy- a perfect accompaniment to the US Angus Roast Beef!
Moving on to the beautiful 3D avant-garde entremets that showcases Alice Boulangerie's creativity and culinary finesse, we first dived into this luscious and sinfully chocolate dessert, Cocoa Ananas' ($10). Made with Manjari (64% chocolate) chocolate mousse, flourless chocolate sponge, salted crumble base, pecan brownie, and pineapple compote.
It boasts a bittersweet and rich chocolate flavour with subtle notes of pineapple. Personally, I find the chocolate a little overpowering, but if you are a dark chocolate lover, this one is definitely for you!
Then, we had the Acorn ($13) which comes with a chocolate acorn shell made with 70% dark chocolate and layers of chocolate mousse, yuzu crémeux, almond dacquoise, almond walnut praline with salted caramel mousse. The chocolate is not as heavy as the previous dessert, with refreshing yuzu flavours cutting through the chocolate.
Next up, we really enjoyed their award-winning Summer Cheese ($10), consisting of calamansi crémeux with lime jelly and pistachio dacquoise, covered in a layer of lime cream cheese, and mascarpone mousse. Bursting with fresh and tangy lime flavours- so refreshing. Not forgetting to mention, the pistachio dacquoise adds a little crisp texture to this dessert.
This choux puff dessert, Mushroom ($9), is our favourite dessert among the rest! It has a light and crisp outer shell, infused with smooth gula melaka, Chantilly cream, and coconut pastry cream complemented with gula melaka caramel- light, sweet, and absolutely pleasant!
Mixed berries and Coconut ($7) is a new addition to its bi-coloured viennoiserie menu! It has a crispy and flaky texture on the outside, covered with white chocolate, house-made marshmallows, and red velvet crumble. It has a soft and airy texture on the inside, filled with delicious and sweet coconut pastry cream, mixed berry compote, and fresh berries.
Last but not least is the must-have item on the Christmas menu, Alice’s Christmas Log Cake ($85), served with a lovely 3D squirrel made using orange dark chocolate mousse. It comes with 3 layers of texture- moist chocolate flourless sponge, chocolate mud biscuit, and an exotic fruit crémeux with caramelised banana and hazelnut praline crunch. It has a perfect sweetness, with flavourful notes of banana- so decadent!
Final Thoughts
Overall, we loved the places and the food, especially the Mushroom dessert. I would love to return here with my loved ones for a Christmas gathering or even for an afternoon tea with my girlfriends.
