Flipper’s Singapore: Our Absolute Must-Haves at The Iconic Well-Loved Japanese Pancake Chain

Famous for its incredibly soft, fluffy, and jiggly soufflé pancakes, Flipper’s Singapore has (finally) opened its doors in Singapore at Takashimaya Shopping Centre!

Flipper’s Singapore originates from Tokyo, Japan, and is one of Japan’s most well-loved pancake chains today! The brand is known for its inimitable Kiseki (奇跡) pancake, which also means miracle in English. This is why you’ll bound to find long queues at each Flipper’s store all around the world!

There are 6 soufflé pancake flavours available in the flagship store in Singapore, and here are 5 flavours we had tried - from sweet to savoury ones. Delve deeper if you want to know the experience and our absolute must-haves!

Those who have been to Flipper’s in Japan will notice that the interior of the Singapore store is designed almost identically. Using the brand’s signature yellow and pale grey pastel furnishings and artistic pictures lining the white brick walls, the store exudes inviting and cheery vibes.

The show kitchen is the highlight of the whole cafe, customers can get up close to see how their Kiseki pancakes are made! Do you know that each souffle pancake is freshly made upon ordering to make sure every customer enjoys the best experience of pillow-soft pancakes! Talk about crafting with love, care and attention.

Millennial Strawberry (opening and seasonal special), $20.80

Millennial Strawberry (opening and seasonal special), $20.80

In conjunction with the opening of Flipper’s Singapore, the Millennial Strawberry is their opening and seasonal special and will only be available until 30th November.

The soufflé pancakes are sandwiched with sweet Chitose strawberries, velvety cream cheese, and homemade strawberry jelly. Topped with strawberry-infused cream, the Millennial Strawberry is one of my favourites, and I would absolutely recommend you to order it especially when it is a seasonal item!

At first bite, I was blown away by how delicate and soft the pancakes are! The whole combination is also not too sweet, making you crave for more of it.

PS: At Flipper’s, the soufflé pancakes are so delicate that they are served with two forks because a knife would ruin the fluffiness!

Kiseki Pancake Hazelnut Chocolate, $21.80

Kiseki Pancake Hazelnut Chocolate, $21.80

This is something for the chocolate lovers, not so for me! The Kiseki Pancake Hazelnut Chocolate is coated with Valrhona Equatoriale Noire 55 chocolate-infused cream, luscious hazelnut praline, and caramelised bananas. The highlight of the dish is definitely the caramelised bananas, it adds a great touch to the whole taste!

Kiseki Pancake Matcha, $19.80

Those who are familiar with my articles in this space would know I am a die-hard fan of matcha.

However, I think I may be too excited for this, that it was not as great as I had expected. To me, the matcha taste was too subtle - what I was expecting was a rich creamy matcha and azuki red beans combination.

On the contrary, the Matcha Affogato that I had was good! The burst of authentic bitter yet sweet matcha taste right when I had my first mouthful - would highly recommend you to order this drink!

Kiseki Pancake Plain, $16.80

Kiseki Pancake Plain, $16.80

Classics will never go wrong.

The Kiseki Pancake Plain, a Flipper’s Classic, is my favourite out of all. It is the definition of simplicity at its best - soufflé pancakes topped with their homemade maple whipped cream. The smooth and buttery cream adds so much flavour to the pancake without overpowering it. Light, sweet, and CLASSIC.

Eggs Benedict Soufflé Pancake, $22.80

Eggs Benedict Soufflé Pancake, $22.80

I’m usually someone who does not order a savoury pancake because I don’t fancy the combination of sweet and savoury, but I have to admit I was blown away by this item, and in fact, it could be the only savoury pancake I would order.

Two perfectly poached eggs sit atop two soufflé pancakes - one is crowned with grilled tiger prawns and avocado cubes, while the other with Norwegian smoked salmon and sautéed spinach. The tiger prawns are succulent and I like how the poached eggs are not foul - later I discovered that Flipper’s team has handpicked and tested six variants of eggs before deciding on Hinata eggs from Kanagawa prefecture.

My top 2 favourites and will highly recommend it to all of you are the Kiseki Pancake Plain and the Millennial Strawberry!

Flipper’s Singapore will also be launching new seasonal specials soon! You can look forward to Kiseki pancakes starring fresh Japanese fruits such as Yubari melon, white peach, and Shine Muscat grapes!

I would be there again when the seasonal specials are out! Who’s up for it!
