Japan’s Beef Cutlet Specialty Restaurant, Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu Now Open In Singapore

Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu, Japan’s largest gyukatsu specialty restaurant with more than 70 outlets worldwide, recently opened its first Singapore outpost at Raffles City Shopping Centre.

Founded in Kyoto in 2014, Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu serves their gyukatsu medium rare, retaining the umami and juicy flavours of the beef. The highest quality of beef is used to make their gyukatsu, with each beef cut boasting a unique taste and meat tenderness. Their signature koromo batter (a balance of flour, eggs and breadcrumbs) seals the meat juices with a crispy and golden brown exterior, completing the perfect gyukatsu.

On the menu, there are five different beef cuts: Sirloin, Wagyu Sirloin, Chuck Tail Flap, Tenderloin, and Tongue. Tip: You can opt for the Half & Half GYUKATSU ZEN to try two different cuts!

We had Sirloin and Tenderloin GYUKATSU ZEN ($29) and Sirloin and Beef Tongue Gyukatsu ZEN ($32). The Sirloin cut was our favourite cut for it was really tender and juicy. As for the Tongue cut, they were thickly sliced therefore on the chewier side. The housemade Togarashi Miso cut through the fattiness of beef tongue cutlet and added a slight hint of spiciness from the green chilli peppers.

If you prefer to have your beef katsu cooked a little more, you can sizzle it on the mini hot pan, to your preferred doneness. We cooked the Tenderloin cut a little more and enjoyed the beefy umami flavours.

There is also a wide variety of sauces and condiments to complement your gyukatsu, so you can enjoy an array of flavours in a meal. Choose from dashi soy sauce, sansho pepper salt, and the staple gyukatsu sauce. Each set also comes with a bowl of rice and miso soup, their signature onsen egg and Kyoto-style curry. P.S: You can request for additional servings of free-flow cabbage and rice.

Next, the star of Kyoto Katsugyu is their most premium A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Beef Sirloin GYUKATSU ZEN ($55). You can also top up $25 to add it on to any GYUKATSU ZEN sets.

Marvel at this perfectly marbled Wagyu with a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. This premium cut was especially soft and packed with distinctive wagyu umami flavours. We recommend ordering this for an exceptional beef katsu experience.

Seafood Katsu ZEN

Besides beef katsu, you can also find Seafood Katsu ZEN ($32) which features large shrimps, scallops and salmon cutlet coated with specially ground raw breadcrumbs. Vegetable lovers can go for the Yasai Tempura ZEN ($25) which presents fresh seasonal Japanese vegetables coated in the same crispy batter.

On the beverage menu, there are free flow hojicha ($3), thirst quenchers such as canned Japanese Orange and Apple Juices ($4.20 each), Sapporo Premium Beer ($11) and an assortment of sake and Japanese alcohol.

Save this place and pop by to satisfy your gyukatsu cravings soon!
