Japanese Pun: 2/9 - Meat Day at Jun’s Butchery!
Nestled in the heart of the River Valley area, Jun’s Butchery is a Fresh Meat Korean and Japanese Butcher store selling a variety of fresh and chilled meats that are extremely popular among the Japanese and Korean expats in Singapore. Within 15 minutes since I step into the store, I have personally witnessed more than five walk-in customers, and all of them were Korean and Japanese.
Here’s something cute: The number 2 in Japanese is Ni, and 9 is Ku. Meat in Japanese is pronounced as Niku, which is why February 9th (2/9) is a Japanese pun “holiday” - Meat Day!
Opened in 2019 by 2 Koreans (Jun and Hoon), Jun’s Butchery has more than 2,000 regulars patronizing them frequently. Their business was not affected by COVID greatly as many expats love having their own grill parties at home, even during the Circuit Breaker.
Their meats are perfect for Korean BBQ and Japanese Yakiniku.
The most popular meats in Jun’s Butchery are short ribs, beef tongues, pork jowls, and pork bellies.
Apart from selling fresh and chilled meats, Jun’s butchery also does homemade marination for your meat if you opt for it! Regulars would normally order in-store and make the payment, and collect it the day after!
