Review: Frying Fish Club Serves Innovative Fusion Japanese-Inspired Fish and Chips
A hidden gem nestled in Owen Road (nearest train station Farrer Park MRT is a 6-min walk away), Japanese fusion restaurant Frying Fish Club serves up some of the best Japanese-infused crispy fish and chips in town.
After hearing about all the raving reviews, we had to head down there ourselves to have a taste.
And after trying the Nori Shiro Maguro Fish and Chips ($19.50), we totally got the hype now and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The soft and delicate white tuna fish was incredibly fresh, encrusted in a light and crispy batter infused with seaweed and dashi, far exceeding our expectations for such a classic dish as it was jam-packed with umami.
We also ordered the Chicken Namban Salad ($18.50) for our main and we were pleasantly surprised at how generous the serving was! Ideal for sharing with friends, especially when paired with the fish and chips and other sides, the dish featured crispy fried chicken slathered in a rich and flavourful dressing, achieving the perfect balance of tenderness and juiciness.
As for the sides, we decided to go with the chef’s recommendation and opted for the Calamari ($12). We relished the impeccably crispy batter encasing the fried calamari, perfectly executed without being excessively greasy. However, do ensure to savour it while it's still piping hot for the most delicious experience!
Concluding the delightful dining experience on a sweet note, the Iced Lemon Peach Tea ($5.50) and Bored and Boozy Salted Plum (Sour) ($14) delivered a harmonious blend of spirited flavours and refreshing sweetness.
Make your way to Frying Fish Club to experience the brilliant fusion flavours for yourself! Make a reservation here.
