Review: Japanese Cat-Themed Bakery, CATBAKE, Opens Its First Outlet In Singapore Offering Neko Shokupan, Cat Cheesecake, And More

If you are an avid fan of pastries like me, be sure to check out CATBAKE, a newly opened Japanese cat-themed bakery at The Star Vista. This is their first-ever CATBAKE outlet, helmed by famed pâtissier and chef, Shinya Tajima, whose Neko Neko Shokupan became an internet sensation in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also acquired the local chocolate dessert chain, Chocolate Origin, and started his own sub-brand, Cacaocat, offering Hokkaido-made Chocolate Bonbons.

This aesthetic yet cozy café is decked in wood tones and brown accents and decorated with Cacaocat’s Chocolate Bonbon Gift Tin.

You may also take your pick at the station and choose from an assortment of Chocolate Bonbon ($2 per piece) featuring flavours like Salted Milk, Matcha, Choco Mint, Caramel, Yuzu, Hojicha, and more.

Croque Monsieur

We tried the Croque Monsieur ($4.50)- a great sandwich to start the meal! The cat-shaped shokupan is perfectly toasted with a crunch, boasting savoury flavours of grilled ham and cheese.

Cat Pizza

Next, we had the flavourful Cat Pizza ($4.90), perfect for pizza lovers. It is served with a similar shokupan as the Croque Monsieur, topped with a generous amount of tomato spread, cheese, and bell peppers.

Cat Cheesecake

Moving on to the desserts, we had the decadent Cat Cheesecake ($28). It is light, creamy, and smooth and comes with a soft buttery crust at the bottom.

Cat French Toast with Gelato

Last but not least, we finished off the meal with their Cat French Toast with Gelato ($9.10). The Cat French Toast is thick and fluffy, and we went with a single scoop of Dark Chocolate Gelato (from Chocolate Origin), packed with rich and intense chocolatey flavour.

Final Thoughts

The pastries and desserts were heavenly in every bite. There’s no doubt that this new café has become my new go-to-favourite place to satisfy my cravings. Besides, the ambience is the perfect place for a catch-up with friends.
