Review: London's No.1 Japanese Ramen Chain, Kanada-Ya, Offers New Mentaiko Menu and Takoyaki Roulette Challenge

Mentaiko fans, we have good news for you! Look no further than Kanada-Ya's latest Mentaiko Series featuring sides like Mentaiko Fried Chicken, Mentaiko Gyoza, and more. You can also go on a new exciting dining experience where you can take your taste buds on a thrill ride with their Takoyaki Roulette Challenge.

We visited the outlet at Marina Square, and the space boasts a cozy ambience featuring a minimalist design decked with Japanese-style rattan lanterns.

Mentaiko Series

First up, we tried the Mentaiko Fried Chicken ($9.90), served in bite-sized pieces and deep-fried till crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, which goes perfectly well with the rich mentaiko sauce.

Next, we had the Mentaiko Gyoza ($8.90), stuffed with a savory filling of minced meat and veggies. It was undeniably delicious, especially while enjoying it with the mentaiko sauce.

The Mentaiko Takoyaki ($6.90) was bursting with umami flavours- the perfect combination with the mentaiko sauce. Not only that, the takoyaki has a crispy texture on the outside and a soft and gooey texture on the inside.

Last but not least, we had the golden crisp Mentaiko Fries ($7.90). We loved how generous they were with their mentaiko sauce.

Signature Truffle Ramen

We also got to try their Signature Truffle Ramen, which comes with their signature tonkotsu mix soup base flavored with black truffle oil, topped with truffle marinated chashu belly and truffle jelly. The broth is rich, and the delicate truffle flavor provides a pleasant note without being too overwhelming.

Black Garlic Ramen

We finished the meal with Black Garlic Ramen, served with their homemade fragrant and smoky black garlic sauce with Tonkotsu broth. The flavour of this broth is heavier compared to the Signature Truffle Ramen, bursting with garlicky flavours and full of umami punch.

From now till 31st March 2023, partake in Kanada-Ya Tako Roulette Challenge! Order a minimum order of any two ramen special and receive a free plate of takoyaki by snapping a photo and tagging #kanadayasg on their social media. Take note as there is a twist to it- one of the takoyaki balls will be filled with wasabi!

Final Thoughts

We loved how generous there were with their mentaiko sauce for each dish. Besides, I would see myself coming back for their Signature Truffle Ramen- the perfect comforting soup for the soul.
