An Underrated Gem In The Heart Of Golden Mile Tower - Yorimichi Yakitori Bar
I chanced upon this bar one fine day when I was on my way for some Thai food at the basement of Golden Mile Tower - I found it interesting that there’s actually a Japanese bar in…golden…mile…tower?!
“Yorimichi” directly translates to ‘detour’ in Japanese. Located at a nondescript corner near the entrance of Golden Mile Tower, this small, dimly-lit joint looks like for one found in an alley in my Tokyo Trip during the pre-covid days. Oh how I miss traveling in Japan….
Japan's equivalent of taverns, Izakayas have traditionally been known as cosy joints Japanese salarymen visit for barbecued skewers and a few rounds of drinks! I was here on a Thursday night, but the bar was packed with working adults and mostly locals.
It looks pretty dodgy from the outside with tables and chairs, but upon entering, the homely atmosphere instantly reminded me of the ones I went to in Japan. The staff who attended to us was extremely friendly and takes great pride in ensuring that we’re well taken care of — later I found out he’s the founder, Xiao Yu!

Warm tones, comfortable ambience, chatters . I dig.
Hailing all mentaiko lovers, you’ve to try this one. An al-dente pasta well-coated with the creamy spicy cod roe sauce, it’s well worth for it’s portion at only $12! However, i’m still finding the best mentaiko pasta in Singapore. So if you know of any - do let me know please.
For those who are wondering what mentaiko tastes like, it’s a mixture of salty and savoury at the same time.
Had to order my favourite pitan tofu (century egg beancurd), which was good by the way — pairing it with a dozen bite-sized kushiyaki skewers! Be sure to wash down with their fried chicken karaage too!
If you like your wok-hei taste, this is a must-try. At an affordable price of only $10 with it’s generous portion, I love how every mouthful gives me a pack of garlicky and buttery taste.
For all you foodies who love your yakitori and beer, you have to visit this hidden gem which instantly brings you back to Japan! Even though you can’t be in Japan, well — you can at least feel like you are.
Pro tip: Amp up your experience by hopping on our virtual travel series whilst sipping your highball in Yorimichi Yakitori.
However, do make a reservation before heading down because it gets really packed. (especially on weekends)! Let us know if you’ve been there!
