Discover Exquisite Japanese Food & Craft at Fukui Gyosho Fair 2022
Fukui Gyosho Fair 2022 - An exclusive food & craft fair amassing 15 leading food manufacturers and 10 prominent crafts manufacturers from Fukui Prefecture, Japan.
For the second year running, Fukui Gyosho Fair is here in Central Singapore, Isetan Scotts and TOKYU HANDS Orchard, Suntec City, Great World City outlets, from 22 July to 23 August 2022.
We were honoured to be invited to Gyosho Fukui opening reception event, held on 19 July, at Fukui Restaurant. A variety of premium Fukui food and craft products were on display and it was a rewarding experience for us. Chef Masayuki Nosaka, 3rd generation owner/chef of Grill Ama Kara in Fukui Prefecture, and Sommelier Akiko Tomoda enticed guests with their delectable food and sake, specially created using Fukui ingredients (which are available at Isetan Scotts).
Traditionally, Gyosho refers to the act of venturing beyond one’s home locale to do business and engaging in cross-cultural exchanges. Fukui Gyosho Fair takes on a modern approach by showcasing Fukui Prefecture’s local food and craft specialties all the way from Japan to Singapore.
Fukui Prefecture
Easily accessible from Osaka and Kyoto, Fukui Prefecture is located on the coast of the Sea of Japan in the Chubu Region. This is a perfect getaway for your body, mind and soul to relax. Iconic attractions include Fukui Dinosaur Museum, Eiheiji Temple, a headquarters of Zen Buddhism; Maruoka Castle, one of twelve remaining original castles in the country; and spectacular cliffs and coastline at Tojinbo. Fukui is also the birthplace of Echizen pottery.

NANI Picks
1) Echizen Seiko Crab [Santan Honten]
This crab delicacy is rich in nutrients, its firm flesh is filled with intense flavour.
Fun fact: Echizen crab is particularly famous as a tribute historically offered to successive emperors since the Meiji era.
2) Okawa Bread
This sweet bread was soft and fluffy, as you would expect from freshly-baked bread from a Japanese bakery. It packed the right amount of sweetness which served as a perfect dessert after a hearty meal.
3) Fried Crackers [ECHIZEN KAISEN CLUB]
”Smell the sea” as you indulge in the aroma of glorious seafood such as octopus, squid, crab, shrimp and sea bream. The senbei is crisp and tasty, preserving the natural flavour of the abundant and fresh seafood from Fukui. For a wholesome snacking experience, you may want to make your own cracker dip.
4) Hakuryu Junmai Ginjo Summer Sarara Sake {Yoshida Shuzo sake Brewery]
Light, smooth and soft, perfect refreshing drink for the hot and humid Singapore weather.
Tip: Pair the Fried Crackers with this fresh and light sake.
5) Daiginjo Ryu Sake [Black Dragon Brewery]
Clean yet complex with a dry finish.
Tip: Pair this with sweet seafood and desserts. The natural sweetness of the food will match well with the sake’s ripe fruit aroma.
6) Coaster with Shippou pattern
This intricate coaster would make a great gift. It is functional, meaningful, of great quality and workmanship.
