Miss the food, onsen, and beautiful scenery in Japan? Here's some good news for you! Japan is finally welcoming visitors back into the country under a trial programme.

On May 26, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that Japan enables foreign visitors to enter the country via package tours from June 10, Friday. It allows tourists from countries and regions with low risk for COVID-19 to enter which includes Singapore, Malaysia, the United States, Australia, and Thailand.

In addition, Japan is also expanding the number of airports accepting international flights from five to seven. It includes Sapporo’s and Okinawa’s main airports around June.

Here are some things to take note of before travelling to Japan! All travellers must have received 3 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, and are required to purchase medical insurance. Lastly, travellers must be on a package tour with fixed itineraries accompanied by a tour group from a local travel agency. 

Do note that tourists arriving from countries with low COVID-19 risks do not need to be tested upon arrival. Tourists must comply with COVID-related measures such as wearing masks while in Japan.

According to Nikkei, it is said that there are plans to increase the maximum number of daily foreign arrivals from 10,000 to 20,000 per day. Let's hope that Japan can slowly ease its restrictions and welcome more visitors from different countries so that we can all enjoy the delicious food and onsen spa!
