Demon Slayer’s Movie: Featured Spots in Nagano Prefecture
Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) movie was released in Japan last October and it has already marked the highest box-office revenue in the history of the Japanese movie industry. The Demon Slayer Movie is a 2020 Japanese animated fantasy and action film based on the shōnen manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotōge.
The movie's popularity has been skyrocketing not only in Japan but also here in our home country. It was released in Singapore last November and many anime and manga fans flocked to the cinemas during this period!
With tributes to this movie, many places in Japan that are featured in the movie have become extremely popular in recent months. The NANI team had the opportunity to meet Watanabe san from the Nagano Prefectural Government and he shared with us some of the spots in Nagano prefecture that were highlighted in the Demon Slayer movie.

Kamado Shrine(竈神社), Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture
With the movie’s deep connections to Japanese history and traditional legends of oni (鬼) demons, Kamado Shrine becomes a go-to-spot for committed fans to explore deeper into Japanese culture.
Kamado shrine in Omachi city, Nagano Prefecture, is a popular shrine to visit for praying for good relationships, and it also hosts Shinto marriage ceremonies. Until quite recently, the shrine becomes a popular daily attraction thanks to the movie!
The Kamado Shrine(竈神社) is greatly linked to the famous characters in the movie - Kamado Tanjiro and Kamado Nezuko, because of their similar names. Though they are different Kanji letters, all 3 have the same pronunciation ‛kamado’. The shrine’s Kanji is 竈 and Tanjiro and Nezuko’s Kanji is 竈門.
2. Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route
Omachi city is located in the Northwest of Nagano prefecture. It shares the prefectural border with Toyama Prefecture at the Northern Japan Alps and is renowned for its rich nature. Every year many tourists will flock to Omachi city because of its wide array of activities that you can do - from mountain climbing, skiing to kayaking, their natural onsens and premium local sakes are very famous too!
Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a unique and spectacular route through the Northern Japan Alps, traversed by various means of transportation such as cable cars, trolley-buses, and a ropeway. The route opens in April and is closed during the winter season due to heavy snow (read about the snowiest prefectures in Japan and the hefty costs of snow clean-up).
Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route attracts thousands of visitors and tourists whenever it opens, as there are plenty of attractions, making a day spent entirely there so easy!
3. Sacred Tree (Nezuko) at Kamo Shrine in Kinasa District, Nagano City
A sacred tree (Nezuko) at Kamo Shrine 加茂神社 in Kinasa District, Nagano City, shares the same name as Kamado Nezuko in the Demon Slayer movie. Nezuko is designated as a natural treasure of Nagano city and it is presumed to be over 400 years old, with a height reaching 30m tall.
