Ne Ne Neko: New Cafe-Izakaya At PLQ Plaza Serving Value Set Lunch And Robatayaki
In the open space of PLQ Plaza sits Ne Ne Neko- a new cafe-izakaya concept by the same team behind Joo Chiat Oyster House. In the day, the cafe serves a delectable spread featuring scrumptious don, sando, shokupans, desserts and speciality coffee beverages. By evening, the izakaya dishes out a variety of robatayaki (grilled skewers), sharing plates and side dishes paired with premium sake, highballs and more.
Day Cafe
Pop by during lunchtime to enjoy value set lunches such as Japanese Mapo Tofu Don ($14.90), Okinawa Kakuni Don crafted with Kurobuta Pork ($18.90), Chicken Nanban Don ($18.90) and more. Each set lunch is served with free flow miso soup and sencha, one side dish and fresh fruits.
Alternatively, swap rice bowls for classic Japanese sandwiches such as Chicken Katsu Sando ($17) or their signature Shokupan- Tamago No Shokupan ($12) featuring charcoal toasted shokupan topped with onsen eggs and butter on the side. Specialty coffee concoctions for a caffeine boost include UME ($10), Yuzu Cloud ($10), and Mocha Bloom ($11)- espresso shaken with chocolate oat milk and a touch of tangy orange.
Night Izakaya
In the evening, the menu features an array of robatayaki made from fresh meat, seafood and vegetables grilled over hot charcoal. Chef recommendations include Mentaiko Yakitori ($3.60), Bacon Shisho ($5), Ebi Shioyaki ($3.80) and Imo Mochi ($3)- potato with cheese mochi.
The Bacon Shiso was a delightful combination of fresh shiso and juicy bacon. The Imo Mochi was chewy and savoury, we wished for a little bit more cheese in this lovely mochi.
Additionally, order some small plates for sharing with your friends. Agedashi Tofu ($11.90) features bonito & fried breaded tofu with nitsume sauce. This is like your usual agedashi tofu, albeit with extra finely shaved bonito flakes.
From the seafood selection, the Sake Ushio Jiru ($10.80)- Japanese steamed clam soup with sake was a simple yet heartwarming soup which accentuated the freshness of the clams.
Sweet endings include the Kinako Dango (3pcs for $5.90)- boiled rice flour balls dusted generously with sweet soybean powder. It was delicately sweet and delicious. A matcha version, Matcha Dango is also available for fans of green tea.
Last but not least, non-alcoholic Quenchers such as Butterfly Lemonade ($7) and Berries Squash ($7) are great for refreshing your palates and beating the hot weather.
Daily Happy Hour (10am to 7pm)
Gather your drinking buddies to enjoy this exciting promotion available daily- Highballs ($10), Half Pint Beer on Tap ($11) with 50% off 2nd glass.
For the sake enthusiasts, there is the Sake Bottle Promo- 10% off 2nd bottle and 20% off 3rd bottle.
Final Thoughts
Depending on the time of visit, diners can enjoy delectable cafe grubs and sumptuous lunch sets in the day, or unwind over tasty bar bites and drinks after work. Therefore, you may wish to visit not once but twice to try out their full menu! We look forward to visiting in the day to try out the Sando the next time!
