Review: Japanese Viral Cake-In-A-Can by Okashi Gaku Featuring Singapore's Exclusive Flavours
Japan is known for its delectable and aesthetically-pleasing confectionaries! Not forgetting the beautiful cake-in-a-can that took over the internet, featuring pictures of transparent cans filled with layers of chiffon cake, cream, and more. In case you didn't know, this cake-in-a-can vending machine concept was first introduced in Japan late last year by renowned Japanese patisserie, Okashi Gaku.
Well, you are in for a treat! From 16th September 2022, get your hands on these pretty canned cakes, air-flown weekly from Japan, in Suntec City from a vending machine.
It accepts all forms of digital payment, from PayNow to Wechat, to GrabPay, and more. All you have to do is select your preferred can, tap your card, wait for your dessert to dispense, pull and twist the ring tab, and enjoy it on the go!
Look forward to their best-selling flavour, Shortcake Cans ($11.80), layered with chiffon cake, whipped cream, and strawberries! I have to say this is definitely one of my favourites. The chiffon cake is soft and moist, filled with fresh sweet strawberries and creamy whipped cream with a subtle hint of vanilla.
Okashi Gaku also offers Fuwa Cans, with the name inspired by the Japanese word, fluffy. It comes with a selection of flavours including Strawberry ($9.80), Mango & Passionfruit ($9.90), and Singapore's exclusive flavours- Matcha ($8.80), Mango & Chocolate ($9.80), and Tiramisu ($8.80). Each can comes with chiffon cake layered with cream, fruit jelly, fruit puree, and fruit jam.
My top pick is Mango and Passionfruit. It comes with sweet mango puree with small mango bits and delicious passionfruit jelly that complemented well with the chiffon cake. I seriously could not get enough of it! Here are the others I've tried:
Strawberry
In this Strawberry Fuwa Can, you can find layers of strawberry puree, chiffon cake, and whipped cream. It also has bits of nuts which added an extra texture to the cake. The strawberry puree is a little sour but goes well with the chiffon cake and sweet whipped cream.
Tiramisu
The Tiramisu comes with light-flavored mascarpone cream, and delicious coffee jelly, topped with cocoa powder.
Mango & Chocolate
This Mango & Chocolate flavour comes with savoury mango cream that balanced well with the chocolate chiffon cake without overpowering one another. You can also find bits of nuts in it.
Matcha
The Matcha is very light compared to the ones above, with a subtle matcha flavouring.
Final Thoughts
I have always wanted to try this Instagrammable cake since I saw it on social media. They were so delicious that I could not get enough of them! It is also such a perfect dessert to have on the go, enjoying it anywhere and anytime in a can! P.s. do remember to take a photo of the cakes at the vending machine to remember the flavours as there isn't any labelling on the cans.
Get your hands on these pretty cakes from 16th September 2022, available at the vending machine outside Eat at Seven, in Suntec City (North Wing), level 3!
