Ishikawa is easily accessible by Shinkansen from Tokyo (takes about 3 hours from Tokyo to Kanazawa) and express trains from Osaka, Kyoto, and Nagoya.

In July 2020, the Kanazawa Castle's Hashizume Mon (the most important gate of the castle) was completed. And bringing about a new sightseeing route called the "Kaga Hyakumangoku Sightseeing Route", with the capital city of Kanazawa being the epicentre.

Later in October, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, was also added to the Kaga Hyakumangoku Sightseeing Route. Let us take you on a quick tour and share with you what Ishikawa Prefecture has to offer!

1. Nomura Clan Samurai Home

Explore the well-preserved towns of the Nagamachi Samurai District. Home to the Samurais of Ishikawa Prefecture, you will be fully immersed with remnants of the noble castle town when you take a walk through its cobblestone alleys and earthen walls. The only mansion currently open to the public is the Nomura Clan Home - which has won two stars on the "Michelin Green Guide Japan" in 2009. This magnificent mansion and its pristine gardens are indeed world-class and have received massive compliments for the beauty on countless occasions.

Head up to the tea room on the 2nd floor after a quick tour of the mansion for a recharge. Order a cup of hot matcha, and this trip will be made worthwhile with a spectacular view.

2. Nezumitamon Gate & Bridge

In July 2020, the Nezumitamon Bridge, the largest wooden bridge in Kanazawa Castle, was restored for the first time in about 140 years. Unlike the other gates in the castle, the Nezumitamon Gate features distinctive Namako walls (traditional Japanese tiles used in old samurai residences in the Edo era in Japan) with raised black plaster joining rectangular tiles.

Each gate in the castle has its distinctiveness - all of them are unique and adds symbolic touches to this place. Be sure to check out this bridge when you visit Kanazawa Castle since this signifies what once stood here long ago.

4. Kenrokuen Garden

Kenrokuen, known as one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, is built by a Kaga feudal lord in the Edo period. This garden features hills, ponds, meanders, trees, flowers, and even teahouses. Another reason for its popularity is its ability to flaunt its natural beauty in all 4 seasons throughout the year! That’s some remarkable effort that had gone into the planning, design, and maintenance of this garden.
