Oreryu Shio-Ramen Review: Light Yet Flavourful Salt Ramen In Tokyo, Japan
A must-try for ramen lovers visiting Tokyo, ramen chain Oreryu Shio-Ramen serves a wide variety of shio (salt) ramen and jukusei shio (matured salt) ramen, as well as kara-shio (spicy salt) ramen and miso (fermented soy bean paste) ramen. “Oreryu Shio-Ramen” translates to “My Own Style Salt Ramen” in English, diners can freely add a variety of complimentary housemade toppings to their heart’s desire, customising “my own ramen”.
This summer, we beat the sweltering 35°C weather in Tokyo with our very first bowl of chilled ramen. We also tried a dry ramen along with a bowl of rich and spicy miso ramen at their Shibuya flagship store.
Oreryu Shio-Ramen
Meticulously prepared by simmering chicken bones and green onions, Oreryu Shio-Ramen (¥780, ∼SGD 7) is a bowl of comforting ramen packed with umami and mild sweetness. Topped with a slice of chashu pork, onions, bamboo shoots and spinach, this is a perfect introduction to Tokyo style ramen.
Oreryu Yuzu Shio-Ramen ( ¥1000, ∼SGD 9) is a chilled version of their classic shio-ramen, topped with yuzu and a slice of lemon for a citrusy refresher in the blazing Japan summer heat.
We thoroughly enjoyed this bowl of chilled ramen, the saltiness level is just right for our palate, it definitely did not leave us parched after our meal. As the broth was clean and light-tasting, we could savour each of the fresh ramen toppings.

Can’t go without a soft-boiled egg in your ramen? Opt for the Special Oreryu Shio-Ramen (¥980, ∼SGD 8.80) for an indulgent salt ramen with an additional slice of chasu pork and a soft-boiled egg. Prefer a more robust ramen broth? Oreryu Shin Jukusei-Ramen ( ¥1000, ∼SGD 9) boast an aromatic garlic-flavoured creamy chicken broth, it is recommended to spice it up with Oreryu housemade secret spicy sauce. Other condiments available on the table include yuzu kosho (yuzu chilli paste), garlic paste and umeboshi (pickled plum) paste.
Oreryu Kara Miso-Ramen
As spice lovers, we had to try the Oreryu Shin Jukusei-Ramen ( ¥900, ∼SGD 8). Oreryu’s recipe features an addition of their housemade special spicy sauce to miso ramen. Although the spiciness level was rather mild for us, the broth was certainly rich and flavourful.
Top up ¥100 for a Special Lunch Set (available from 11am to 6pm), which includes a choice of Shio-Ramen or Miso-Ramen, choice of side dish (Gyoza 3pcs, Karaage 2pcs, Yurinchi (deep fried chicken) 2pcs or Steamed Wanton 4pcs) as well as a choice of half rice or topping (egg, butter, bamboo shoot, leek, green onion or spinach).
Hiyashi Tori Soba (Chilled Chicken Soba)
Hiyashi Tori Soba ( ¥1,100, ∼SGD 10) is a bowl of summer time chilled soba, a dry ramen rendition with generous toppings such as sliced chicken, minced chicken, soft-boiled egg, spinach atop chilled noodles doused in a sweet and savoury soy sauce based sauce. This bowl of chilled chicken soba packed sweet, sour and savoury flavours all in one, the refreshing acidity whetted our appetites.
Store Location
There are several Oreryu Shio Ramen stores in Tokyo, with the majority of them in Meguro and Shibuya city. Tip: Look out for their vibrant orange signboard.
Final Thoughts
Although Oreryu Shio-Ramen is a ramen chain, it did not disappoint with its wide variety of quality scrumptious ramen. They have English menu so you can browse and take your pick before placing your order at the self ordering ticket machine. We would love to try their Fried Chicken Ramen on our next visit!
