Joo Chiat Oyster House: Vibrant Cafe-Bar With Fresh Japanese Oysters And Locally-Inspired Cocktails

In continuation of our search for quality Japanese oyster buffets on the sunny island, Joo Chiat Oyster House (JCOH) is a gem located in the heart of Katong. A coffee house by day and oyster bar by night, King Carts Coffee Factory is well-known for its scrumptious brunch delights and top quality house roasted coffee. Nearing sunset, the same space transforms into an intimate bar setting serving up premium Japanese oysters, locally-inspired cocktails and more.

A vibrant, neon red signage at the entrance beckons you into the interior illuminated with reddish, soft yellow lighting and buzzing with funky music beats.

Oyster Menu

JCOH imports their oysters directly from Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, flown in weekly and shucked upon order for ultimate freshness. Oysters are served 4 ways; naked (raw), flavoured, dressed with ikura and baked.

Naked Oysters range from $3.10 (order of 1 dozen) to $3.50 per piece (min order 2 pieces).

Flavoured Oysters are available from $3.30 to $3.90 per piece. There is a total of 5 flavours to choose, including Chimichurri , Salsa, Yuzu Foam and more.

Baked Oysters ($4.30 to $4.90 per piece) are served with various toppings including mentaiko, miso butter, garlic chilli and cheese. This is certainly a thoughtful option for diners who are not great fans of raw oysters.

$2++ Naked Oysters All Night Promotion

Round up your fellow oyster-loving buddies and order a minimum of one alcohol beverage for half dozen or 1 bottle wine/sake for 2 dozen of naked oysters (served with lemon and tabasco only). Offer is available from Monday to Thursdays (excluding public holidays).

Tapas

Oysters aside, JCOH also offers unique tapas which celebrate Eastern and Western culinary traditions, while embodying Singaporean flavours. Har Cheong Gai Chicken Loli (4 pcs for $14.00)- prawn paste marinated chicken drumlets which were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. This might just be the perfect bar bite to pair with a pint of beer.

Back to seafood, we had Chilli Crab Mantou ($16.00) which includes a bowl of mildly spicy chilli crab with 5 pieces of deep fried mantou. You can top up $3.50 for 4 more pieces of mantou. It might be a good idea to top up for more mantou to soak up every last drop of the addictive chilli crab dip.

Mains & Pasta

On the menu, main dish highlights include Chicken Roulade ($24.00) and Katong Laksa Fish & Chips ($26.00) and French Onion Beef Cheek ($28.00).

We had Portobello Aglio Oglio ($21.00) which featured al-dente linguine tossed in garlic and white wine sauce, adorned with portobello mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, chilli flakes, parmesan cheese and Italian parsley. The cook on the mushrooms and cherry tomatoes were spot-on, adding another level of aromatics and earthiness to the dish.

Cocktails

JCOH is also a master of creative cocktails such as the Solero ($20.00)- inspired by the childhood favourite Solero lime ice-cream, perfect for sweltering hot days with its refreshing tartness from the lime sorbet.

Next, East Coast Plan ($22) is an uplifting combination of Hendrick’s gin, fresh mint, lime and prosecco. A palate cleanser to refresh your tastebuds after a round of oysters.

Love coffee and vodka? Check out the Espresso Martini ($18.00), concocted with house blend espresso, vodka and cream.

As a side note, there is also a good variety of non-alcoholic beverages spanning from coffee, local craft tea to fizzy coolers.
