KATSU-AN Review: Famous Japanese Tonkatsu Restaurant Opens First International Store In Suntec City Serving Pork And Chicken Katsu Don From $5.90++

Katsudon lovers, rejoice! Famed Japanese tonkatsu specialty restaurant Katsu-an opens its first international store in Singapore!

Katsu-an at Suntec City offers affordable quality katsudon with prices starting from $5.90 nett.

Quality Ingredients

  • Premium Meat: Katsu-an uses the best, tender, and juicy meat selected by their professional chefs.

  • Crispy Breadcrumbs: Freshest breadcrumbs are roasted and coarsely ground, for that perfect crispy texture and aroma.

  • Healthy Frying: 100% vegetable oil enhances the meat's taste while keeping it juicy.

  • Fresh Eggs: Katsu-an guarantees the freshness of their eggs by conducting thorough inspections. Eggs are cracked on-site, this is the key to their fluffy batter and breading.

Katsudon

The signature dish of Katsu-an is the Tonkatsu Don (M: $5.90, L: $7.50, XL: $9.50). The egg and dashi acts as a flavour enhancement to the fluffy steamed Japanese Koshihikari rice. The loin cut was tender and juicy, adding more richness to the dish. A classic done right!

Next, the Miso Tonkatsu ($9.50) comes leathered in nutty and savoury miso sauce—the tonkatsu acts as a vessel for the miso sauce, both complementing each other.

Another signature dish is the Original Sauce Katsu Don (M: $5.90, L: $7.50, XL: $9.50). Instead of the egg and dashi, you get their secret sauce similar to the ones you can find in Japan! The sauce does not overpower the taste of the pork, providing a hint of sweetness and tartness instead.

Lastly, the Deluxe Curry ($16.90), true to its name, presents a combination of chicken, pork and shrimp. The meal was delicious, with each cut of meat cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. The curry is mildly spicy, taking the edge off the deep-fried dish.

Secret Sauce

Katsu-an has crafted two unique and special sauces. Signature Sauce consists of 16 kinds of vegetable and fruit extract blended with various spices. For something slightly sweeter, the Apricot Sauce brings a fruity and tart flavour to the table.

Final Thoughts

Whether you are a fan of succulent pork, tender chicken, or fresh seafood, Katsu-an has it all! Katsu-an provides various dishes in 3 sizes (M, L, XL). The M size is a regular portion, upsize to the L and XL if you fancy more rice and meat. Katsu-an is cosy and comfortable for a quick lunch or family dinner.

At $5.90 per don, you can get the most bang for buck at Katsu-an.
